If you’re a fan Mad Men, like we are, then you must be more then familiar with the fashionable business lunch. Usually centered around a plethora of manhattans and dirty martinis, it is always two or more men discussing anything but business and eating what looks to be an overindulging meal. And if you watch the show and happen to love oysters, then you would have noticed that on occasion Don Draper is slurping away at some fine look bivalves at the Grand Central Oyster Bar.
Although we are ways passed the days of boozy business lunches, it is nice to get out of the office on occasion, discuss a little business, and enjoy a nice meal with an industry affiliate
So when a few weeks ago I was asked to be taken to a lunch of the best oysters in town, the only place that seemed fitting was none other than our favorite Aquagrill.
Striking big, the day we chose happen to be the most beautiful and abnormally warm day in March. And so it was an easy choice of a table outside in the cobble stoned neighborhood of Soho. With hours of work to follow our lunch, we stuck with their delightfully refreshing in house ice teas. For our meal, we began with a half dozen oysters each. My lunch partner preferring East Coast, and myself West, we made our selections accordingly and threw in two Canoe Lagoons to liven things out. Couldn’t let the oyster finish off its season without a final slurp.
As for the rest of our meal, we shared the Tuna Carpaccio and two of the specials that day, The Mackerel Crudo and Peekytoe Crab roll. Everything was absolutely delicious. The oysters perfection, the roll a subtle beauty, the tuna refined in delivery, and the crudo just absolutely mind blowing amazing. My restaurant selection was commended on all levels, neighborhood, food, ambiance, and of course the most perfect oysters.
Its going to be tough to top this one!
